When trumpeter Tom Browne hit the Billboard charts in 1980, one would have thought that he was an overnight sensation. However, the licensed pilot had several years under his belt working with Weldon Irvine, Sonny Fortune, and others. His debut smash single, "Funkin' for Jamaica (. " took the music industry by storm. Between Browne's piercing horn intro and his chilling riffs in the vamp, the New York native and his cohorts lay down one jammin' groove.

Tom Browne's "Love Approach" is in part responsible for the music we know as smooth jazz. Just as George Benson's "This Marquerade" from Breezin, and Grover Washington's "Mister Magic" broke through genres with a fusion of jazz and funk so did Tom's "Funkin' For Jamaica (. These classics belong in your library. This I believe to be the fourth time. Tom Browne's trumpet is so crisp, and.

Funkin' for Jamaica (. " is a 1980 single by jazz trumpeter Tom Browne. The single-a memoir of the neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens where Browne was born and raised-is from his second solo album, Love Approach. Browne got the idea for the song while he was at his parents' home. The vocals for the single were performed by Toni Smith (Thomassina Carrollyne Smith), who also helped compose the song. The song hit number one on the . R&B chart for a month.

Where is the UK "remix"? It has more trumpet soloing and more dialog not heard on the OG mix. Seems like a missed opportunity here.
