The latter helps Begoña Uriarte and Karl-Hermann Mrongovius sculpt the tricky rhythms and repeated notes clearly and excitingly. Recording level is rather high, although less than the Shelley/Macnamara, but there is no harshness of tone. It almost sounds orchestral at times, a function both of the recorded sound and the nuanced phrasing and coloration by this piano duo who have been partners (in marriage and in music) for roughly forty years.

Visions de l'Amen ("Visions of the Amen") is a suite of seven pieces for two pianos by the French composer Olivier Messiaen (1908–1992), commissioned for the Concerts de la Pléiade that were held during the German occupation of Paris. It was composed in 1943 for the composer and Yvonne Loriod, and its performance requires about 40–45 minutes.
