A vesicointestinal fistula (or intestinovesical fistula) is a form of fistula between the bladder and the bowel. A fistula involving the bladder can have one of many specific names, describing the specific location of its outlet: Bladder and intestine: "vesicoenteric", "enterovesical", or "vesicointestinal". Bladder and colon: "vesicocolic" or "colovesical". Bladder and rectum: "vesicorectal" or "rectovesical".
Vesico-intestinal fistulae were observed in 14 patients within a period of 10 years (vesico-colonic: ten; vesico-rectal: two; vesico-ileal and vesico-rectal-ileal: one each). The causes were diverticulitis in five, carcinoma of the sigmoid in two, radiation damage after prostatic or cervical carcinoma in two, and Crohn's disease, abscess of Douglas's pouch after perforated appendicitis, ileal carcinoma, sarcoma of the pelvis, and ovarian carcinoma, one each. In the neoplastic fistulae the underlying carcinoma could not be radically operated on: colostomy or colostomy with palliative resection was performed. In four of these the fistulae then closed, once it remained open. One woman with a vesicorectal fistula due to ovarian carcinoma died of tumor cachexia 16 days after a colostomy had been made. Diagnosis and treatment of vesico-intestinal fistula. MedLine Citation: PMID: 2911876 Owner: NLM Status: MEDLINE. ct: In a retrospective study of 28 patients with vesico-intestinal fistula, the maximal diagnostic latency was eight years. The most common causes were diverticulitis (16 patients) and carcinoma of the colon (4 patients). Recurrent urinary tract infections with pneumaturia and/or faecaluria were found in 23 patients. The diagnosis was most accurately confirmed by cystoscopy and barium enema which showed evidence of a fistula in 20 patients.

Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) is a subtype of female urogenital fistula (UGF). Vesicovaginal fistula, or VVF, is an abnormal fistulous tract extending between the bladder (vesica) and the vagina that allows the continuous involuntary discharge of urine into the vaginal vault. In addition to the medical sequela from these fistulas, they often have a profound effect on the patient's emotional well-being.
Colovesical fistula secondary to diverticular disease is increasing in incidence. Presentation and severity may differ, but a common management strategy may be applied. The aim of this study is to evaluate the characteristics and perioperative management of patients with colovesical fistulae and determine optimal management. BPC 157 was provided daily, perorally, in drinking water (10µg/kg, 12ml/rat/day) until sacrifice or, alternatively, 10µg/kg or 10 ng/kg intraperitoneally, with the first application at 30min after surgery and the last at 24h before sacrifice. Controls simultaneously received an equivolume of saline (. ml/kg ip) or water only (12ml/rat/day). colon and vesical defects, fistula leaking, fecaluria and defecation through the fistula, adhesions and intestinal obstruction as healing processes) took place on days 7, 14 and 28.
Cathetrisation of the fistulous tract. Vesico-intestinal fistula. Vesico-vaginal fistula. Secondary to obstetric, surgical or radiation injury or invasive cervix cancer. 37 Vesico-vaginal fistula Relatively common Secondary to obstetric, surgical or radiation injury or invasive cervix cancer Constant leackage of urine Pelvic examination Cystoscopy Vaginography. 38 Vesico-vaginal fistula. 39 Vesico-vaginal fistula. 40 Treatment of fistulas Vesico-intestinal fistula - proximal colostomy - resection of the bowel + closure of the blader Vesico-vaginal fistula - coagulation of the fistula - indwelling catheter - surgical repair through vagina or transvesically.
