I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! is a 1969 studio album by American singer-songwriter Janis Joplin. It was the first solo studio album Joplin recorded after leaving her former band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and the only one released in her lifetime (Pearl was released three months after Joplin's death).
Janis Joplin's solo debut was a letdown at the time of release, suffering in comparison with Big Brother's Cheap Thrills from the previous year, and shifting her style toward soul-rock in a way that disappointed some fans. Removed from that context, it sounds better today, though it's still flawed. Fronting the short-lived Kozmic Blues Band, the arrangements are horn heavy and the material soulful and bluesy. The band sounds a little stiff and although Joplin's singing is good, she would sound more electrifying on various live versions of some of the songs
What Janis is laying down here is psychedelic soul driven blues of the first magnitude. Kozmic Blues reflected a change and direction from the two albums she recorded with Big Brother & The Holding Company in San Francisco, this time making her way east with the Kozmic Blues Band, settling into a New York City studio a mere fourteen months after Cheap Thrills clued in the world as to what this woman had to offer
Album I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama! Kozmic Blues Lyrics. Time keeps moving on Friends they turn away I keep moving' on But I never found out why I keep pushing so hard the dream I keep trying' to make it right Through another lonely day, whoa a. Dawn has come at last Twenty-five years, honey just in one night, oh yeah Well, I'm twenty-five years older now So I know we can't be right And I'm no better, baby And I can't help you no more Than I did when just a girl.
