Diana Ross: Blue by R. Emmet Sweeney, published on May 27, 2006. In late 1971, after Diana Ross completed filming the Billie Holiday bio-pic Lady Sings the Blues, Motown put her in the studio to record an album of jazz standards to coincide with the movie's release. The material was shelved after the producers decided to keep Ross on the pop-star track, which soon produced the hit "Touch Me in the Morning. This summer Motown is releasing that long-lost album, entitled Blue.
Stolen Moments: The Lady Sings. Released: April 1993. Later it was included on the album Ross (1978). c The first released version of "We Can Never Light That Old Flame Again" was a non-album single in 1982, and was remixed by Berry Gordy and James Anthony Carmichael.

Diana Ross made her film debut in Lady Sings The Blues in October 1972. The soundtrack became a US No. 1 on Billie Holiday's birthday the following 7 April. The soundtrack album from the movie became Diana’s only US No. 1 solo pop album - aptly, on the chart date that would have been Billie’s 58th birthday, 7 April 1973. The double LP featured Ross singing such gems from the tragic singer’s catalogue as ‘God Bless The Child,’ ‘Strange Fruit’ and the title song. It’s a poignant reminder of Lady Day’s sadly early demise that, when Lady Sings The Blues was released, she had already been gone for some 13 years.
