Stabat Mater (Op. 58, originally Op. 28, B. 71) for soloists, choir and orchestra is an extended sacred cantata by the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák based on the text of the Latin Stabat Mater sequence. The work was sketched in 1876 and completed in 1877. Dvořák began the composition of Stabat Mater in 1875, six month after the death of his daughter, Josefa, who was only two days old. He chose the work, unusually for him, without a commission.

Stabat Mater is the sixth full-length album by Stefano Lentini. It was released on October 8, 2013. The single 'Stabat Mater' is a part of the soundtrack of Wong Kar Wai's The Grandmaster, 2014 Oscar Nominee. I think this is wrong. Any kind of music able to convey some Truth about existence should be regarded as sacred.

Antonín Dvorák's Stabat Mater, Op. 58, truly merits the adjective "tragic"; it was written after the deaths of two of the composer's children in succession, and his grief rolled out in great, Verdian waves

The fact is that Dvořák put aside the completed sketch of Stabat mater and in the summer 1876 wrote two more cycles of Moravian Duets, the cycle Evening Songs, to words by V. Hálek, and the piano concerto in G minor. Almost exactly a year after the birth of his first daughter, a second daughter, Růženka, was born.
