John Hanson (April 14 1721 – November 15, 1783) was a merchant and public official from Maryland during the era of the American Revolution. In 1779, Hanson was elected as a delegate to the Continental Congress after serving in a variety of roles for the Patriot cause in Maryland. He signed the Articles of Confederation in 1781 after Maryland finally joined the other states in ratifying them.

How much of John Samuel Hanson's work have you seen? . 2006 Blind Dating (assistant to composer - as John Hanson). 2006 Poseidon (technical score assistant). 2006 16 Blocks (technical score assistant - as John Hansen). 2005 Constantine (technical score assistant).

This resilient myth has been around for more than one hundred years, as his descendants have sought to plump up his reputation. By June of 1780 when John Hanson finally took his seat in Congress, Maryland was the only colony left who had not agreed to the Articles of Confederation. The competing claims of the Colonies and various land speculation companies to the western territories was at issue.

In November 1781, John Hanson became the first President of the United States in Congress Assembled, under the Articles of Confederation. Many people have argued that John Hanson, and not George Washington, was the first President of the United States, but this is not quite true. Under the Articles of Confederation, the United States had no executive branch. The President of Congress was a ceremonial position within the Confederation Congress. Hanson didn't really enjoy his job either, and found the work tedious and wished to resign. So, because he loved his country, and out of a sense of duty, he remained in office.

Zac Hanson told Songfacts: "That song started out as the background part for another song. We were making our first independent album and we were trying to come up with a background part. We started singing a slightly different incarnation of what is now the chorus of MMMBop. That sort of stuck in our heads but never really worked as a background part. Over a couple of years, we really crafted the rest of the song - the verses and bridge and so on. It was something we almost stumbled upon. Growing up, the Hanson brothers listened to a lot of '50s and '60s music.
