The Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock band, formed in San Antonio in 1964. With their first hits, they were acclaimed in their home state. When their career was established (subsequent to working with Texas record-producer Huey Meaux), the band relocated to the West Coast. Their move coincided with the burgeoning San Francisco psychedelic rock scene of the mid 1960s to early 1970s. Overall, the quintet were exponents of good-times music with strong roots in blues and Texas-regional traditions.

The first Sir Dougless Quintet album I bought was Sir Douglas Quintet + 2 Honkey Blues. That album is a full out jazzR&B masterpiece, almost sounding like Cream at times. Mendocino is not. This is Tex-Mex with a garage sound. Hit Songs" are probably from a Live Concert or early studio work (?) and Hits like "Mendocino" and "Dynamite Woman" are not the released "singles" versions. I will probably get the " Top 40 singles " versions at a later date. but I do love the cantina sound of these versions. As an album, it works well if you like the Sir Douglas sound.
