The music delivered by As Deafness Increases is indeed punk, or perhaps noise. It's just that the punk presented is at a glacial pace, or maybe it's the noise of Merzbow performed as if there were a sleeping baby in the room. Released by the often obstreperous label Va Fongool, the same outfit that gave us the thrashing band ICH BIN N!NTENDO, the distortion band MUMMU, and the tuba-on-steroids and keyboard band Skrap, comes this slow treatment of soundscapes.

Sudden deafness frequently affects only one ear. People with SSHL often discover the hearing loss upon waking up in the morning. Others first notice it when they try to use the deafened ear, such as when they use a phone. Still others notice a loud, alarming pop just before their hearing disappears. People with sudden deafness may also notice one or more of these symptoms: a feeling of ear fullness, dizziness, and/or a ringing in their ears, such as tinnitus. For more information, read the NIDCD fact sheet Tinnitus . Receiving timely treatment greatly increases the chance that you will recover at least some of your hearing. Experts estimate that SSHL strikes between one and six people per 5,000 every year, but the actual number of new SSHL cases each year could be much higher because SSHL often goes undiagnosed. SSHL can happen to people at any age, but most often affects adults in their late 40s and early 50s.

Hearing impairment, deafness, or hearing loss refers to the total or partial inability to hear sounds. Symptoms may be mild, moderate, severe, or profound. A patient with a mild hearing impairment may have problems understanding speech, especially if there is a lot of noise around, while those with moderate deafness may need a hearing aid. Some people are severely deaf and rely on lip-reading to communicate with others. Profound deafness: This refers to a total lack of hearing. An individual with profound deafness is unable to detect sound at all.
I believe deafness probably heightens more senses. People who are deaf aren't using the parts of the brain that would be devoted to processing audible information. That part of the brain is free to be devoted to any other task. I do believe that when one sense, such as deafness, fails, one or more of the other senses increases in an effort to try and compensate. Blind people have a sharper sense of hearing, which their bodies may have gradually increased in an effort to compensate for the lack of sight.
