It had been over a decade since Moore released his surprisingly successful debut for the label that essentially defined the rock guitar virtuoso genre. After spending years trying to shed the neo-classical tag and developing a Satriani-esque phrasing ability/tonal vocabulary, Moore brought some new tricks to his old bag, and Maze benefits because of it. The compositions are more mature than those on Mind's Eye and Time Odyssey and Moore's instrumental voice is light years in advance of what it was during his previous neo-classical forays

This CD is an absolute pleasure to listen to as both a musician and a music lover. I particularly like the interesting transitions and contrasts in style of "The Maze" and the acoustic sweetness of "Never Been to Barcelona"

Mind's Eye is the first studio album by guitarist Vinnie Moore, released in 1986 through Shrapnel Records. Recorded in eleven days when Moore was 21 years old, the album was ranked third on the all-time top ten list of shred albums in a 2009 article by Guitar World magazine.

Vinnie Moore emerged onto the shredding scene of the mid 80's along with the famed Yngwie Malmsteen and Tony Macalpine with his debut solo album "Mind's Eye" which is one of the most influential "shred" albums to come out of that era, even being ranked number three in Guitar One Magazine's "Top 10 Shred Albums of All Time". Even with his second album "Time Odyssey" he was still very popular at the time
