Zubin Mehta during his tenure as the Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic proved his mettle with the grand pieces and no where was he as brazenly successful as in this recording which dates back to 1971 (when it was originally in combination with the Star Wars extravaganza and even Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra the various recording dates were between 1968, 1971, and 1978 with a release in 1997). But all that is history now with this fine re-mastering of just the planets and a couple of excerpts from John Williams score for Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind
