Kill the Moonlight is the fourth album by the rock band Spoon, released on August 20, 2002. The album features a stripped-down, minimal sound that incorporates various different instruments such as tambourines and pianos along with an idiosyncratic production style. The album has gone on to receive critical acclaim with its lead single "The Way We Get By" being used in various television shows, and is nowadays widely regarded as Spoon's magnum opus.

Normally when rock bands enter a an-instrument phase, their songs get overworked and overblown, but Spoon moved in the opposite direction, opting for a rhythm-centric economy. Kill the Moonlight Q&A.
The result, Kill the Moonlight, plays like a greatest hits compilation not of songs, but of sounds- the best echoes of everything Spoon has done swirl around and unite. Bowie soul seamlessly flirts with Spoon's deceptively simplistic rhythms and vocals that span all the hope and hopelessness of the human condition. Moonlight plays out as if Spoon is standing dead center in a vast, empty warehouse. Thousands of seats are placed close to the band, and there's a drawn-out nervousness- total silence- before they produce a single sound. The rest of the album is largely more upbeat, fortunately, or it could have slipped into a fugue. A little of the guitar braggadocio that netted the band so many past comparisons to the Pixies, and older acts like Wire, is showcased on "Jonathon Fisk. The riffs hit hard and fast, and some of the horns Bowie once used on Hunky Dory drop by to lighten things up.

Coming just a year-and-a-half after their triumphant return Girls Can Tell, Kill the Moonlight isn't so much a step backward as a step sideways, almost like a breather after the emotional and musical intensity of their previous album. Though the album's brittle immediacy is far from a disappointment, and the quick turnaround between Kill the Moonlight and their previous one is a treat for Spoon fans, one can't help but notice that this album just isn't as revelatory as Girls Can Tell.

I am hard pressed to find a particularly sour track on Kill the Moonlight. The beat box backing on Stay Don’t Go can grow a bit tiresome and annoying, and thus steps out as my least favourite song. However when this song is sandwiched between three great songs prior to it, and my favourite song following it, there is simply no room for complaints. That song, which follows Stay Don’t Go, is Jonathon Fisk and serves as an excellent piece of pure rock n’ roll.
These adjectives were some of many used by fans and critics alike to describe Spoon's 2002 magnum opus "Kill the Moonlight," yet the record proves upon closer examination to be a good bit more than meets the eye. 10/1. xpand.
Kill the Moonlight Download. 180 gram, Includes Download Card. Building on the momentum of 2001's critically acclaimed GIRLS CAN TELL, Spoon unveiled KILL THE MOONLIGHT the following year. Keeping things spare, yet surprisingly eclectic, is what elevates KILL THE MOONLIGHT above similarly conceived underground albums; this quality helped to make it one of 2002's most lauded indie-rock releases. I recently saw Spoon in concert though I was a bit apprehensive after listening to this album. Don't get me wrong, this is an complex, textured album, it's just more on a bit of a downbeat than Girls Can Tell. I was pleased that most of the songs they performed were off their previous release.
