Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Despite the circumstances of its creation and release, Soul of a Woman remains both grounded in human concerns and remarkably forward-looking, with Jones finding faith in building towards even the briefest of futures. This comes through best on the album’s spirited first half, where tracks like Sail On! and Rumors crackle with the sensual show-band dynamism often found in the groups renowned live shows

The Dap-Kings stepped up their game on Soul of a Woman as well; even more than on their previous work, the band evokes the sound and feel of another era without sounding mannered or mired in nostalgia, and this is an uncommon meeting between passion and precision. But the Dap-Kings clearly put their music at the service of their lead singer when they made this album, and they made the right choice

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings' final record is a celebration of everything that made the soul revivalists great since their inception in the early '00s. The first half of Soul Of A Woman is a powerful final encore for the late Sharon Jones, showcasing the dizzying array of soul and funk styles that she and the Dap-Kings crew perfected over the last 20 years. But after the James Brown frenzy of its opening tracks and the less memorable Motown-inspired middle ground, the album changes course.

Jacob Blickenstaff /Courtesy of the artist. When Jones and the Dap-Kings first assembled over 15 years ago, they mastered a blend of soul and funk influences drawn from years past. Over time, though, they crafted their own sonic identity out of that melange. For longtime fans, some of Soul of a Woman will play to expectation. A song like "Sail On" provides the kind of uptempo, foot-stomping verve that's always been Jones' bread and butter on stage.

Final album from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings is 'Soul of a Woman. When Sharon Jones died of pancreatic cancer last year, the world lost its greatest exponent of vintage soul; that she’d first hit her stride in the ’00s with the revivalist, detail-obsessed Daptone label, made the accomplishment all the more striking. Recorded over her last two years with longtime sidemen, genre-masters all, Jones meets darkness with hope on this denouement. A Matter of Time envisions world peace; Come and Be a Winner is a funky pep talk.

I think the bad pressing are a general problem of daptone records, because I got 4 Sharon Jones records on vinyl and they all sound like old and dirty records. No matter I try to clean, wash, whatever, the sound keeps poor and unpleasant. The only one that I can rate as a "good" pressing is Naturally.

Ok so the record is a classic I love every track so it would be wrong of me to give such a record any less than 5 stars but as for the vinyl pressing shame on you Daptone someone has seriously messed up on this. The mastering wasn't done properly the volume keeps dipping in and out its so annoying and mine had a lot of crackles to not happy I've never had a problem with Daptone ever and love the label, seems like others are having problems to.
Ballardana
Same for me on both sides ! SHAME ON Daptone Records and Rainbo Records !
Yalone
Yes , I have the same problem on both sides...

Two terrible copies down already. Anyone managed to get one that doesn’t have loud, intrusive crackle in the right channel from track 1?
Mori
I have it on Side B, but Side A is as clean as can be...I hate Rainbo pressings. :p
Buridora
I also have this intrusive crackle on the red edition...
