The idea for GREGORIAN came about when the Hamburg music producer Frank Peterson visited the royal monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial in Spain in 1989. Walking through the medieval monastery and chateau listening to current music on his walkman, he found the inspiration for the sound experiment of mixing the ancient Gregorian music with modern light music. Each Gregorian album is initially digitally tracked at Nemo Studios, Peterson's Hamburg studio The concept proved to be successful, and the group proceeded to record several more Masters of Chant albums in the same style.
