Someday someone may sort out who actually played on tracks like "Twisting With James," with its heavy guitar sound and pop instrumental roots - regardless of who it was, however, all of the music is still a pleasure to hear, not only on its own terms but for the cultural intersection that the Dr. No soundtrack represents. Composer Monty Norman reportedly would like to have seen more of his orchestral music on the album, but masters for any additional music from the film no longer exist.

These are good to very good pieces of music, compared to everything else that presents itself as James Bond background music. Where this album gets weak are the large handful of tracks toward the end that have nothing to do with D. o. One or two of them might have made it into the movie in some parallel Universe; but most of these "extras" tend toward the lame in any Universe. Track 22 is supposed to be the James Bond Theme end title for Dr. No. Sadly, it is not.
