Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949) is an American musician, singer, songwriter and humanitarian. He is best known for his work with his E Street Band. Nicknamed "The Boss," Springsteen is widely known for his brand of poetic lyrics, Americana, working class and sometimes political sentiments centered on his native New Jersey, his distinctive voice and his lengthy and energetic stage performances, with concerts from the 1970s to the present decade running over three hours in length. Gram Parsons was present for the recording sessions of Exile at Nellcôte, and "Torn and Frayed" is perhaps the most overtly Parsons-influenced cut the Stones ever recorded, with a country-soul flavour reminiscent of the Parsons-fronted Flying Burrito Brothers' 1969 debut album The Gilded Palace of Sin.

Tracks is a four-disc box set by Bruce Springsteen, released in 1998 containing 66 songs. This box set mostly consists of d songs recorded during the sessions for his many albums, but also includes a number of single B-sides, as well as demos and alternate versions of already-released material. The project began in early 1998, when Springsteen and his chief recording engineer, Toby Scott, began going through his massive collection of unreleased songs

The guitar player's coat in the song is "torn and frayed" from being on the road - a look at the less glamourous side of being a rock star. Al Perkins played the pedal steel guitar, possibly at the recommendation of Parsons. After working on this track, Perkins played on Parsons' solo albums and went on to play for Dan Fogelberg, Bob Dylan, Tori Amos and Sixpence None the Richer. This also features Nicky Hopkins on piano and Jim Price on organ. Price is a horn player - trombone, trumpet, horn - who also occasionally played keyboards

The Album Collection Vol. 2. Go To.

In the liner notes to his volume of Columbia's Essential series, Bruce Springsteen immediately lays out the problem with hits collections: "In any body of work there are obvious high points. The rest depends on who's doing the listening. Where you were, when it was, who you were with when a particular song or album cut the deepest. All artists have this problem, but Springsteen has it more than most, since he not only has a deep and varied body of work, but he has a passionate, dedicated fan base.

Some of the best song writing you will ever hear and such a great display of Springsteen as a singer-songwriter. The only way that you could go through this whole album and not feel anything is if you are a hollow, apathetic monster or sumthin.
