Employing ideals and samples from the album The Blue Guerilla by Kain of the Last Poets, the tone of this record was to be dramatically different than their first, which was lighthearted and playful while still spreading a message about racial stereotypes. Volatile yet poignant tracks like "What a Nigga Know" and "Black Bastards!" are hip-hop fireballs.

Bl ck B st rds features some of the most controversial album art the conscious hip-hop scene ever released. The art depicts a Negro cartoon character being hanged from the gallows, like in a game of hangman, beneath him are the words Black Bastards (missing the A’s). The cartoon was the fuel that forced Elektra to drop the group from its roster, despite whatever talent the actual record displayed. The style has influenced more underground rappers today than almost any one else. Each member brings a new flavor into the collective, be it Onyx’s rhymes, Zev’s flow or Subroc’s extensive collection of samples and rhythms. Bl ck B st rds is as much a fitting end to one life as it is the beginning of another. If Operation Doomsday is the Fellowship of the Rings, then Bastards is undoubtedly hip hop’s Hobbit.

KMD ‎– Bl ck B st rds. Label: Readyrock Records ‎– RR 2001. Format: 2 Vinyl, LP, Album. Country: US. Released: 2000. This album was released as a bootleg in the early nineties, the album cover stopped it from getting released as kmd refused to change it. It is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Bl ck B st rds Vinyl. I recommed this album to those who want to hear more examples of Doom's early 90's production, the way MF Doom sounded in 1993/1994, or just curious of the lost album.

Black Bastards (or Bl ck B st rds) is the second studio album by KMD (a rap trio featuring an early alias of MF Doom), completed in 1993 and eventually released in 2001 through ReadyRock. Initially, the album was scheduled for release in 1993, but Elektra Records canceled the album, reportedly due to the controversial cover art, which shows a Sambo figure being lynched, and its black nationalist, Five-Percenter lyrics.

Vinyl reissue incoming!
So glad this gem was finally released officialy. This is truly 1of the best early/mid 90s hip hop.'Sounded like a roc' is still as fresh today as when it was 1st made in '93 & kicks the ass & stomps on the head of99% of modern hip hop , as does every other track on an album that has zero filler. If there was ever an album that could sonicly sum up hip hops golden era THIS IS IT!! I can't say a negative about this record.
