Stronghold is the fourth full-length album by the Austrian black metal band Summoning. This album marked a change in the sound of Summoning as it was much more "guitar orientated with more compact keyboard-melodies". Where Hope and Daylight Die" features Tania Borsky, Protector's ex-girlfriend and a former member of Die Verbannten Kinder Evas, on lead vocals. The album's cover was adapted from 'The Bard', an 1817 painting by John Martin.

Stronghold is the fourth full length album by Summoning. This album is the first by Summoning to feature audio-clips; the clips used on this album were from the movies Braveheart and Legend.

Now, on "Stronghold", Summoning returns with what is their strongest album out of the four they had released at the time. Stronghold" is not a turning point in terms of quality or sound in regards to the slow, atmospheric approach, but how they go about achieving that sound is slightly different this time around. Summoning stood at a crossroads with this album, as the 'Nightshade Forests'-MCD had been the first one that was not able to top its predecessor. Could they once again record a marvellous album and make another step forward or would they suffer the same fate that Abigor suffered, never again to reach the level of 'Orkblut' and 'Nachthymnen' ?
