Tonight (also released as Straight No Chaser) is an album by the Clark Terry-Bob Brookmeyer Quintet, featuring Brookmeyer on trombone and Terry on trumpet and flugelhorn. With tracks recorded in 1964, the album was released on the Mainstream label the following year. The Clark Terry - Bob Brookmeyer Quintet had formed in 1961 at the request of Frank Cantarina, the owner of the Half Note Club in New York City.
Electricity is a third stream music album recording by BOB BROOKMEYER released in 1994 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. John Abercrombie, guitar - Bob Brookmeyer, valve-trombone - Rainer Brüninghaus, keyboards - Frank Chestenier, keyboards - Dieter Ilg, bass - Danny Gottlieb, drums. The WDR Big Band : - Andy Haderer, trumpet - Klaus Osterloh, trumpet - Rick Kiefer, trumpet - Dave Horler, trombone - Bernt Laukamp, trombone - Ray Deuvall, trumbone - Heiner Wiberny, saxphone - Olivier Peters, saxophone - Rolf Römer, saxophone - Paul Peucker, saxophone.
Brookmeyer falls into the latter. In the liner notes Brookmeyer explains that this set was composed with the electric guitar in mind and pretty much with JA in mind as well. But the players include Rainer Bruninghaus on keys (synths, naturally) and Danny Gottlieb drums. Abercrombie plays both electric and guitar synth. The electricity theme is announced by Bruninghaus' eerie synth drone in the opening and is soon jarred by JA's lightening strikes it then moves to some rather stately and tempered electric guitar that in many ways is John Abercrombie's best home turf. That pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the compositions.
