Greatest Hits Volume 1 is a greatest hits compilation album by The Beatles which was exclusive to Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. The album was compiled by EMI Australia to fill in the gap between Rubber Soul and Revolver (much like A Collection of Beatles Oldies would in 1966 in between Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band)

The final album the Beatles recorded, but not the last one they released (see No. 8 on our list of the Top 10 Beatles Albums), comes together like no other Beatles record. In a way, it's rooted as much in the '50s rock 'n' roll that first inspired them ("Come Together" and "Oh! Darling") as it is in the studio luxuries they were afforded thanks to their fame and influence (see side two's eight-song medley). After reinventing pop music with 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' (found later on on our list of the Top 10 Beatles Albums), the Fab Four burrowed even deeper into their studio's playground of sounds

Certainly the best Beatles album- it shows every side of them. Their rocking side (the opening track, Getting Better, the reprise), their soft, melodic, beautiful side (She's Leaving Home), their experimental side (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Fixing A Hole, Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!, Within You Without You, and A Day In The Life of course. and their pop side. This is the best beatles album ever and your rankings are terrible and bent. It's one of their most important albums. It's also the definitive greatest hits album released by the band, in that all the songs are on one disc and this album shows just how big they were; 27 number one hits in total between the US and UK.

They had the rights to the biggest group in the world ever, the Beatles, and the only way to make any new money out of them was to either rely on steady but unspectacular sales of all their catalog albums or put together a new version of a greatest-hits. When, in 1966, there was a gap in the Christmas market between Revolver and Sgt. Pepper, which wouldn't appear for a further six months, they had released the compilation A Collection of Beatles Oldies, and it hadn't worked.

The Beatles may have released Let It Be last, but their final work as a band was Abbey Road. It's definitive proof that the band broke up at the absolute height of their powers. Recorded in the summer of 1969 after the torturous Let It Be sessions, The Beatles knew that Abbey Road was going to be their last effort, so they put aside their differences to craft a masterpiece. Though it was cut in just one month, Rubber Soul was the first time that The Beatles recorded an album all at once – as opposed to cutting various songs during downtime from their insane schedule. 6. ‘Magical Mystery Tour’. Has a soundtrack ever been better than the movie by as wide a margin as Magical Mystery Tour?
