There's a Riot Goin' On is the fifth studio album by American funk and psychedelic soul band Sly and the Family Stone. It was recorded from 1970 to 1971 at Record Plant Studios in Sausalito, California and released later that year on November 20 by Epic Records. The album's recording was dominated by band frontman Sly Stone during a period of drug use and intra-group tension

Zoot Suit Riot: The Swingin' Hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies is a compilation album and fourth album overall by American ska-swing band the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, released on March 18, 1997 on Space Age Bachelor Pad Records. The album is a collection of all of the swing-styled songs culled from the Daddies' first three ska punk-oriented albums, plus four bonus tracks recorded exclusively for this release.

Apparently, thinking about its mood and its historical moment. The songs on There’s a Riot Goin’ On were about turning away from the post-1960s turbulence of the Nixon presidency and withdrawing into music as a hazy refuge. Feel so good inside myself, don’t want to move, declared its opener, Luv N’ Haight. For Mr. Stone, the haze of 1971 also reflected a serious and increasing drug problem. But any stable, long-running band has to battle staleness, and for this album, Yo La Tengo transformed its recording methods. There’s a Riot Going On is the band’s first digitally recorded album, allowing it to use an unlimited number of tracks. It was made in the band’s rehearsal studio with no outside producer, allowing each song to be built in leisurely layers. John McEntire, of Tortoise, eventually mixed the results. The album often dissolves the guitar-bass-drums core of typical Yo La Tengo songs.

Like virtually every other Yo La Tengo album, Riot finds the veteran trio striving to make the guitar band sound like the high point of human civilisation, rather than a vehicle for rebelliousness. It is, however, a departure for them.

In this view, Riot is possibly the moodiest Yo La Tengo album yet. It’s the least song-oriented and most monochromatic LP in the band’s catalog, without a Kaplan whammy-bar wild-out or a pop palate cleanser to be heard. On Riot, Yo La Tengo sound more brooding than ever, which is saying something coming from the band that gave the world the 77-minute tone-poem, 2000’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out. Though it can feel a bit too calm and sedate, the album also reflects the group’s greatest and most instantly recognizable strengths. On Riot’s closer Here You Are, a message of resistance has petrified into something more menacing. We are out of words/We’re out of time/Believe the worst, they chant.
