Life in Tokyo is a song by the British band Japan. A collaboration with disco producer Giorgio Moroder, who also co-wrote the song with David Sylvian, it marked a change of direction from the band's previous sound. Originally released as a single in 1979, it was reissued twice before it finally became a hit on The UK Singles Chart in 1982. The song was written by Giorgio Moroder and band vocalist David Sylvian

Life In Tokyo Lyrics. There's always something left inside here I've really nothing much to lose It seems so sentimental Why should I care? Somewhere there's a sound of distant living Welcome in high society It seems so artificial Why should I care? Oh ho ho life can be cruel Life in Tokyo Oh ho ho, life can be cruel Life in Tokyo. Another vehicle heads for sunset No other providence will do They're only buildings and houses Why should I care? Oh ho ho life can be cruel Life in Tokyo Oh ho ho, life can be cruel Life in Tokyo.

Tokyo – The heart of Japan. Tokyo is located on the main island Honshu and has more than 13 million people living in the greater Tokyo area. It is the center of business, the seat of government and the Emperor of Japan. Tokyo was ranked as the Best overall experience on TripAdvisor World City Survey. In Tokyo, you can find everything your heart desires. Let’s start our interview to know more about expat life in Tokyo. Accommodation is the most expensive part of life in Tokyo. I live in a 40 square meter apartment together with my boyfriend, and we pay 18. 00 Yen per month. The apartment is conveniently located in the city center 1-minute walk from the closest station. I wouldn’t recommend it if you love quiet and nature. These people won’t be happy here. I also have to say that it isn’t easy for vegetarians to live here.

A2. Fall In Love With Me. 4:37. The crucial album in that Japan started responding to the nature of their very choice of name. Goodbye the roughness of the earlier work, hello oriental sophistication wrapped in, aided by lush orchestral arrangements - the calm that became more and more evident on each next album, with "Quiet Life" as a stunning turning point. The closest a counterpart to one "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" (both were delivered in 1980), "Quiet Life" is very easily observed through the prism of a "third debut" album.

Quiet Life peaked at 72 in the British album charts in February 1980, but came back to reach 53 two years after its original release – getting gold status in 1984 for selling over 100,000 copies. It was the beginning of the band’s harvest years – soon they signed to Virgin and released two more superb studio LPs, Gentlemen Take Polaroids (1980) and Tin Drum (1981). The title track was re-released as a single, reaching number 19 in October 1981. Domestic squabbles caused the band to split in 1982, their last ever performance being on 16 December 1982 in Nagoya, Japan

Having read these comments, I was interested to hear my copy when it arrived. I have to say that it sounds great. I have multiple versions of both songs on 7/12” singles and LPs and did a comparison of Life in Tokyo:- Linn LP12 deck with Linn Akito tonearm and Dynavector 10x5 cartridge.- 7” single (original release): the poorest sound quality. Recorded at low level and sounds muffled compared to the others. Also listened with volume turned up to match the dB levels of the others.- 12” single (original release): much better than the 7” but not as good as the others. Recorded at higher line level than the 7” but lower than the others.- 12” single, red vinyl (original release): sounds superb, recorded at a higher level than the black vinyl 12” and a similar level to the majority of records I own.- new 10” red vinyl release: sounds just as good as the original 12” red vinyl release, albeit at maybe 1-2dB louder. No distortion, punchy low end, lovely mids and clean /detailed high end.Not sure why so many sound so poor, whether it’s a batch issue or an issue that’s highlighted by certain cartridges etc?

Thank you. Thought I was going crazy for a second!

Atrocious sound, but they do seem to have used the right versions - Quiet Life is the UK 7" from 1981 that was a hit; the extended version is the same as the album version. Life In Tokyo features the original UK 7" A and B side. In both cases if you care about the sound definitely go for an original release; plenty are out there and the Pye manufactured red vinyl of Tokyo is superb.

I have to echo some of the commenters here - what is the point of releasing this when the sound is possibly the worst I've heard on vinyl for several years: distorted and jumpy as all hell on both sides. It looks pretty I suppose....
Windworker
I did a new test with a different turntable with a cheaper Audio Technica cartridge and the sound was ok, so, I went back to the other turntable and did a new cartridge set up and I solved the problem. There's only a peak on "Life in Tokio" where you can hear a bit of distortion. It's the first time I had this problem with a vinyl.Try to check the cartridge setting, the tracking force, the weight, etc. Thanks everyone.:)
JoldGold
Mine also pretty much distorted on loud choruses although I think the record itself is not too loud - maybe the master already was bad...Listened to with Ortofon Concorde Club.
Grokinos
Poor attention to detail - no producer credit for Quiet Life, which should show John Punter. Life In Tokyo is credited to Simon Napier-Bell (how?) and John Punter when it was a Giorgio Moroder production.

I have a very simple question with regards to this release: what is the point?!
Hrguig
I have the same problem with my copy. There are distortions on high frequencies! It's like they did a master for CD and suited it for pressing a vinyl :(They did a really bad work!I have a Grado black cartridge and a Cambridge pre, so I don't think is my setting.Also... I compared the versions of "Life in Tokio" with the 7" and the one on "Assemblage" and the volume difference is evident!

Maybe it’s a combination, i.e. a record that is sensitive to many cartridges or certain set ups. Or in could be a batch issue. Mine plays fantastically well.
Drelajurus
None of the other records I bought on RSD had any problems at all, they all sounded perfect, it's definitely an issue with the record not the equipment... despite what some others here seem to be implying.
Blueshaper
None of the reported (above/below) sound problems on my copy. Played on Rega RP6 with Ortofon 2M Black cart!
Rainbearer
Mine is bloody awful too. Jumps all over the place. How do I get my money back?
Stylish Monkey
All I have to say is wow! Blown away by the sound of this 10 inch. Huge soundstage! Deep, full bass and insane drums! Excellent separation and clarity, rich, textured, analog sound. Excellent dynamic range. Highs sound clean and clear to me. The vocals can be driven almost to the point of being hot on the chorus to the first Life In Tokyo track but not to the point of distortion. Synths sound awesome. Focused midrange and beautiful detail. Absolutely no distortion or fuzzy sounding entities on my copy. Just clean, clear, vibrant sound. Really wondering why everyone else is having problems with this one...
Windforge
Mine sounds the same. Absolutely superb quality and I’ve compared it to many other versions on vinyl.
Shakar
The pressing is a good one but the music is too loud. All the loudest part of the songs (usually the choruses) are ruined by distortion. I don't know who's to blame but someone f*cked up. Unlistenable.
Anaginn
Have you tried turning down the volume ?? Large knob. On amplifier, usually to the right of the unit, anticolckwise.
Ohatollia
Sounds bloody awful, seems to have a fuzzy distorted sound. I'm not impressed.
