After going into exile from Germany in the 1930s, Fritz Busch worked extensively as a major conductor of the orchestra in parallel with Malko, though again with no formal title. It was founded in 1925 and could celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2000. In the anniversary season the German conductor Gerd Albrecht joined the orchestra as its principal conductor. From summer 2004 Thomas Dausgaard, former Principal Guest Conductor, took over as the first Danish Principal Conductor.

Statsradiofoniens Symfoniorkester (English: The Danish State Radio Symphony Orchestra) was the name from 1925 to 1959 of the symphony orchestra of Statsradiofonien (DR), the Danish national broadcasting corporation. One of the world’s oldest radio symphony orchestras, it debuted with 11 musicians on 28 October 1925 conducted by Launy Grøndahl in a studio concert transmitted nationwide in Denmark.
