The Keystone Cops (often spelled "Keystone Kops") were fictional, humorously incompetent policemen, featured in silent film slapstick comedies produced by Mack Sennett for his Keystone Film Company between 1912 and 1917. The idea for the Keystone Cops came from Hank Mann, who also played police chief Tehiezel in the first film before being replaced by Ford Sterling. Their first film was Hoffmeyer's Legacy (1912) but their popularity stemmed from the 1913 short The Bangville Police starring Mabel Normand.

The K Keystone Kop monster class comprises human law enforcers that are summoned whenever you steal from a shop, such as by teleporting out of the shop or digging downwards. They attack you by throwing cream pies and beat you up with clubs and rubber hoses they bring with them. While they are not very difficult to eliminate, one by one, there are a lot of them, and their numbers are quite intimidating.

The Kops were a gang of zany characters, always trying and failing to come to the rescue–Sort of! The Kops tended to act as an impersonal jumble of policemen, rather than having clear-cut characters. The police chief role would sometimes be an exception. Pie-throwing was also more likely to be done by one of the main actors than one of the Kops. Our idea of Keystone probably stems more from later tribute films, which were full of pies, than from the original 1910s shorts.
