Written by Fran Levstik, Audiobook narrated by Igor Samobor, Urs Remond.
Another school thing form the previous semester. We were doing book illustrations and the first project was to make and illustration of a scene of choice from a famous Slovenian book called Martin Krpan written by Fran Levstik in the 19th century. It’s about a large strong Slovenian farmer who smuggled salt in the Austro-Hungarian empire and was called to the court to kill a Turk who was terrorizing Vienna.
Martin Krpan – myth or truth? The exact location of Martin Krpan’s home is not known for certain, but it was the castle Kalec, where Fran Levstik found the inspiration for his story. Legendary folk hero Martin Krpan from Vrh near Sveta Trojica in the region of Pivka is a fictional character of the writer Fran Levstik created on the basis of the Inner Carniolan oral tradition. It is a story of the strongest man in Slovenian lands, who defeated a brutal Turkish warrior Brdavs and thus saved the imperial Vienna from the enemy.
