Terrasson utilizes a variety of other musicians in larger ensembles for mostly original works (other than Ravel's "Bolero"). Among his sidemen are tenor-saxophonist Michael Brecker (who gets off a couple intense solos), flutist Jay Collins, Mino Cinelu on percussion and guitarist Adam Rodgers, among others; Xiomara Laugarts sings on "Better World," and on a few numbers, Terrasson plays a bit of electric piano.
Jacky Terrasson plays on a Steinway piano. Mino Cinelu plays on Korg wave drums, Yamaha drums, LP congas, djembe, bongos, timbales, Zildijan cymbals, Giorgini Udu, Pro-mark stick. Rights Society: bel/BIEM.

This record however should hold up better- especially now that the initial shock of Jacky Terrasson having departed from his strongly-associated trio format is over. Paris is a concept record that is intended to be a heartfelt tribute by M. errasson to the city of his youth.
Jacky Terrasson's 1999 album, What It Is, represented something of a risk. Gone, it seemed, was the sparse, acoustic approach that had originally given Terrasson his fame. But while this new direction yielded mixed results and left some fans a bit befuddled, one had to respect Terrasson's need to grow and evolve as an artist. Terrasson does much better with his follow-up, A Paris, an homage to the city.
Rendezvous is a collaborative studio album by American jazz singer Cassandra Wilson and jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson. The album was released in 1997 on Blue Note label. The album includes mostly jazz and pop standards. Recordings were made on January 4, 5, 6, and 19 and April 4, 1997 at Clinton Recording Studios in New York City. All the songs were arranged by Jacky Terrasson
Jacky Terrasson Music.
Jacky Terrasson has built a reputation as a lean and mean pianist with the ability to inject lightening bolts of energy into his work. On What It Is, however, Terrasson has taken a decidedly different direction. Rather than calling on his excellent trio, he has chosen to flesh out his band with the addition of everything from flute to guitar to harmonica. While this certainly allows Terrasson to flex his arranging muscles, many of these compositions feel watered down and lacking the intensity and exploration that has been his trademark on previous work.
