This album contains also another early Mozart Singspiel & und Bastienne' K. 50, with Dagmar Schellenberger, Rene Pape and Ralph Eschrig in the vocal cast, also conducted by Max Pommer. Mozart composed this, his first & at the age of 12. The piece contains sung arias and dialogue, preceding his later mature singspiels & Entfuhrung aus dem Serail', & and ultimately & Zauberflote'. The tenor role belongs to Ralph Eschrig, who does a sterling job, but otherwise failed to surpass the 1953 performance of Richard Holm in the role of Bastien: Rita Streich (s), Richard Holm (t), Toni Blankenheim (b), Christoph Stepp conducting the Munich Chamber Orchestra (1953). Even if this is an early work, the genius of the young Mozart is overtly evident in the numbers, which contain some of the most dramatic music that forecasts, even in the vorspiel, Beethoven's & Symphony'.
