Tapestry is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Carole King, released in 1971 on Ode Records and produced by Lou Adler. It is one of the best-selling albums of all time, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide. In the United States, it has been certified Diamond by the RIAA with more than 10 million copies sold. It received four Grammy Awards in 1972, including Album of the Year.

Released February 10, 1971. 1. I Feel the Earth Move Lyrics. She started singing her own songs in 1970, and in 1971 issued her second album, Tapestry, which topped the charts for 15(!!!) weeks – the most ever by a female artist, was the Album of the year and won her a Grammy, as did it’s too late from the album as Record of the Year. Lou Adler, the album producer said that in an 2008 interview on PBS: It’s one of the first albums that I started noticing sequence and continuity of songs, so that it wasn’t a roller coaster emotional ride - it was a smooth rid. s music often does, it becomes the soundtrack of the particular time

With its reliance on pianos and gentle drumming, Tapestry is a light and airy work on its surface, occasionally skirting the boundaries of jazz, but it's also an intensely emotional record, the songs confessional and direct; in its time it connected with listeners like few records before it, and it remains an illuminating experience decades later.

Carole King’s second album, Tapestry, has fulfilled the promise of her first and confirmed the fact that she is one of the most creative figures in all of pop music. It is an album of surpassing personal-intimacy and musical accomplishment and a work infused with a sense of artistic purpose. It is also easy to listen to and easy to enjoy. Miss King’s past accomplishments have become something of a pop music legend.

Of the 12 tracks on Carole King's Tapestry, released in early 1971, seven have become pop music standards, the kind of songs practically every music fan has heard. I Feel the Earth Move," "So Far Away," "It's Too Late," "You've Got a Friend," "Where You Lead," "Will You Love Me Tomorrow"" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" are all songs that I've been aware of for as long as I can remember, songs that have always been around. And that's the biggest achievement here, that so many classic pop songs are on the same release. The album might be mostly just King and a piano, but Tapestry features enough easy-listening goodness to last any listener a lifetime.

Carole King's Tapestry made her a star in 1971, but before most of the album's devotees knew her name, she already had been an enormously successful songwriter for more than a decade. King and lyricist-husband Gerry Goffin spent most of the '60s writing hits like Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion" and The Monkees' "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (which reached No. 1 and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively). The cover art for Tapestry, taken by famed rock photographer Jim McCrary, is an iconic vision of Southern Californian hippie bliss: King, barefoot and frizzy-haired, relaxing by her window with a crafts project and a cat. Neighbors who dropped by to record included Joni Mitchell and James Taylor. Taylor's own version of Tapestry's "You've Got a Friend" became the second No. 1 single written by King in 1971 and won the performer his first Grammy.

Freed from all the baggage, Carole King’s second album still overflows with emotionally honest, subtly soulful singing; masterfully written tunes that blend pop, folk, and R&B; and warm, organic but seamless production. But it’s the unguarded intimacy of Tapestry we love most, particularly on highlights like It’s Too Late and You’ve Got a Friend. Tapestry Carole King. Difficult as it may be, imagine for a minute that Tapestry wasn’t one of the most successful albums in music history; that it wasn’t a defining touchstone for both the boomer generation and the singer/songwriter movement. Freed from all the baggage, Carole King’s second album still overflows with emotionally honest, subtly soulful singing; masterfully written tunes that blend pop, folk, and R&B; and warm, organic but seamless production.
