Silverbird is the debut solo studio album by English singer-songwriter Leo Sayer. It was originally released in late 1973 by Chrysalis (UK), and Warner Bros. It was co-produced by former British pop teen idol Adam Faith and David Courtney. Sayer began his career as a recording artist under the management guidance of Adam Faith, who signed Sayer to the Chrysalis label in the UK and Warner Bros

Leo Sayer's debut album introduced a singer/songwriter (actually he wrote just the lyrics; David Courtney did the music) of some talent, though not remarkable talent. The production screams 1973, with its mainstream pop and hard rock beds and some overlays of symphonic strings, and Sayer sometimes strongly echoes Elton John's early-'70s work, with some hints of David Bowie as well. He didn't have the monster hooks of Elton John and certainly not the quirky originality and edgy experimentalism of Bowie, but actually this is a better album than many would remember

'The Dancer' and 'Why Is Everyday Going Home?' are classics, the rest is ok. Leo Sayer was the first gig that I ever went to, 24th January 1974, Spa Grand Hall, Scarborough.

Wow, never really got into LS and was on the fencepost with this LP. Reminds me like a cross between early Rod Stewart solo and some early Elton John. Very nice mix. Scared to get Just A Boy, but if II find a decent pressing I might just have listen.

"Just A Boy" is good too, not quite as consistent as "Silverbird" but still good. After "Just A Boy," proceed no further!
