The Latin Soul band The Aquarians, mastermined by pianist, composer, Latin Music performer Vladimir Vassilieff Born in Belgium to Russian parents, Mr. Vassilieff moved with his family to Canada in 1958 and later came to the United States. Vassilieff appeared with such entertainers as Bob Hope, Steve Allen, Pete Fountain, Ramsey Lewis, Tammy Wynette, Rudy Vallee and Charo. The band as recorded two singles on Uni Records in 1968 & 1969 and a great album in 1969 titled Jungle Grass all tracks written by Vladimir Vassilieff (exept What Do You Mean, What Do I Mean?).

Part of the strange California zodiac pop funk scene, the Aquarians took astrology rock in several interesting and generally unexplored directions. While primarily the brainchild of composer, arranger, and pianist Vladimir Vassilieff, the Aquarians were actually a supergroup of talented jazz musicians. Featuring Stan Gilbert, a much in-demand bassist at the time, and the incomparable Afro-Cuban percussion of Francisco Aguabella, the Aquarians blended a one love hippie philosophy with smooth, Latin-tinged jazz.

Beautiful bossa/latin jazz lp with psych pop elements and superb female/male vocal harmonies with help from Dave Mackay and Vicky Hamilton,arranged by latin jazz master Vladimir Vasilief and featuring top jazz musicians like Bobby Hutcherson,Joe Pass,Francisco Aquabella and more in a groovy hippy vibe with fantastic piano,vibraphone and flute solos,percussion breaks. And any album with Bobby Hutcherson commands attention, especially one made in the Sixties when he was at the top of his form and the most accomplished vibraphonist ever (with Gary Burton, Milt Jackson, and Earl Griffith close behind. Not up to his Blue Note work but very pleasant. Enjoyable for the music, dated by the hippie-dippie dopey lyrics. Thanks for this one, Lisa! 6:44 AM.
