Ringo is the third studio album by Ringo Starr, released in 1973 on Apple Records. It peaked at No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. In Canada, it reached No. 1 on the RPM national albums chart.
Harry Nilsson's 1971 album, The Point, was a musical fable about a land where a round-headed child is born into a community who all have pointy heads, and what the point is of a round-headed child in a pointy world - and that's all the spoilers I'm giving. Harry decided to make an animated film to accompany the album, and got Dustin Hoffman to voice the Narrator/Father. However, Hoffman's contract stipulated that his voice could only be used for the 1st television showing. Alan Barzman re-recorded Hoffman's part for the second version broadcast
Ringo Starr co-wrote "Harry's Song" as a tribute to Nilsson on his 2008 album Liverpool 8. "Pussy Cats" Starring The Walkmen (2006, Record Collection) The whole of the Pussy Cats album covered by The Walkmen. Billy J. Kramer recorded the song "1941" in 1968 before Nilsson was well known. Without Her" has been covered by Glen Campbell, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Astrud Gilberto, and George Benson
On paper, having Harry Nilsson team up with Ringo Starr for Son of Dracula must have looked like a great idea – not only because Starr was a former Beatle and Nilsson was riding high on the success of his hit Nilsson Schmilsson and Son of Schmilsson LPs, but also because both men had prior experience in film: Nilsson had earlier scored with the. animated adaptation of his The Point! album, while Starr had appeared in a handful of movies and directed the T. Rex concert documentary Born to Boogie
Singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson wrote and produced this touching animated tale in 1971, and contributed some classic songs for the soundtrack. The soft Liverpudlian lilt of ex-Beatle Ringo Starr narrates the tale, telling the story of Oblio: A sad outcast from the village of "Point. largely eschewed by the local villagers due to his round head. The adventures of Oblio and his trusty sidekick dog Arrow subsequently take shape in the "Pointless Forest," a wonderland filled with colorful characters and some enchanting secrets.

Ringo released his eponymous smash hit album in 1973. It yielded three Top 10 singles, including the hits Photograph and You’re Sixteen (You’re Beautiful And You’re Mine). The album Ringo also marked the first time since The Beatles’ break-up that all 4 band members participated in the same project (though not at the same time). In 1974 he joined his best friend Harry Nilsson in The Son of Dracula, narrated Harry’s animated film The Point and appeared in Frank Zappa’s 200 Motels. In 1973 he co-starred as a Teddy Boy in That’ll Be The Day, in 1975 in Ken Russell’s Lisztomania and in 1976 joined The Band for their legendary final concert filmed by Martin Scorcese, The Last Waltz. In 1989 Ringo assembled his first All Starr Band and he found consistent success as a live act with his revolving All Starrs. I got asked if I’d be interested in putting a band together, Ringo would later recount.
