Spice 1 is the self-titled debut album by American rapper Spice 1, released April 14, 1992 on Jive Records. It was certified gold by the RIAA. The album was produced by Ant Banks, Blackjack, E-A-Ski & CMT and Spice 1. It peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at number 82 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers. One single, "Welcome to the Ghetto", peaked at number 39 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and at number 5 on the Billboard Rap Songs.

They don't do anything to negatively affect my love for this album, but I wish that FedEx (or UPS, whoever shipped it, I can't remember) took greater care with fragile items during shipping. Everything else is in perfect condition, so I'm assuming that this was a rare accident.

Spice Girls may have been predominantly aimed at pre-teens and teens, but they certainly weren’t afraid to sing about more grown-up issues. Alongside the pro safe-sex message of 2 Become 1, the TLC-esque R&B of Last Time Lover was originally a song about losing your virginity named First Time Lover. You don’t really hear the harmonica solo that often in pop, even more so on number one singles. However, there was one track the girls recorded for the album that was considered too rude to release anywhere.

Spice doesn't need to be original to be entertaining, nor do the Spice Girls need to be good singers. It just has to be executed well, and the innocuous dance-pop of Spice is infectious. None of the Girls have great voices, but they do exude personality and charisma, which is what drives bouncy dance-pop like "Wannabe," with its ridiculous "zig-a-zig-ahhh" hook, into pure pop guilty pleasure.
