The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 1 March 1973 by Harvest Records. Primarily developed during live performances, the band premiered an early version of the record several months before recording began. New material was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Most of the vinyl versions were issued with gatefold sleeves, however there are a number of obscure versions from exotic countries with significant differences in packaging and design, such as this version: Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon from the Philippines which has the artist's name and LP title printed in large text on a non-gatefold sleeve.

Floyd fans were first treated to Dark Side of the Moon in concert more than a year before the album was actually released. Though the lush textures and spacious arrangements of Dark Side of the Moon make it sound like a purely studio project, the band actually aired out all of the songs in concert – in the exact same sequence that they would appear on the album – more than a year before the album’s official release. The members of Pink Floyd often spent their downtime during the Dark Side sessions watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus on BBC2, so when the British comedy troupe ran into difficulty raising money for their first full-length feature film, the Floyd – now flush with cash from the sales of Dark Side – were more than happy to pony up 10 percent of.

This is a full version of Dark Side Of The Moon that I made a while back. It is a compilation of other people's backing tracks from this site as well as samples from the original album. On The Run" is only a fade in and fade out so that people can improvise something within that middle space instead of just sitting there waiting for it to finish. No lead guitar, no vocals. Hope you enjoy ! marekloa Dec 31 2018, 04:52 AM reply.

Dark Side is estimated to have sold around 15 million copies in the US alone, and over 45 million worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in the history of music. What have the artists said about this? One of the great things about an album like The Dark Side Of The Moon, for example, is what is not played. The way instruments appear and then GO AWAY! Sometimes for great periods of time  . John Carin, t and singer, recurring session musician for Pink Floyd, David Gilmour and Roger Waters since 1987. Produced by Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd POSTER Dark Side of the Moon: Original Album Poster.

The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band. Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance. But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back to psychedelia
