Jazz Spectrum Vol. 19 - Big Band Classics LP (Various - 1977) R-01896 (ID:15384). 15h 28m. FREE US SHIP. on ANY 3+ CDs! NEW CD David Crowell: Spectrum. The first disc features the Indelible Murtceps version of the band - ie upbeat, simple rocking songs with mostly scatalogical lyrics, featuring electric piano instead of organ. They were in a jamming mood that night, three of the four tracks stretch well past ten minutes, but not in a way that would greatly interest prog fans - they kept the groove and kept things simple. The second disc focuses more on Spectrum material - the difference by now meaning Hammond organ, ponderous slow tempi, and rather anarchic playing compared to their much tighter Murtceps material.
The Sea Breeze Jazz label has been instrumental in giving exposure to recordings by jazz musicians who might otherwise not achieve wide distribution. The Full Spectrum Jazz Big Band has strong soloists. They perform a mix of standards, well-known jazz compositions, and some promising originals. Among the outstanding tracks are the feature for three tenor trombones in Dave Brubeck's "It's a Raggy Waltz" (with some hilarious solos that would have its composer laughing out loud) and the brisk fusion vehicle "This Is Not Here.
Spectrum is an Australian progressive rock band which formed in April 1969 and broke up in April 1973. The original line-up was Mark Kennedy on drums, Lee Neale on organ (ex-Nineteen87), Bill Putt on bass guitar (ex-Lost Souls), and Mike Rudd on guitar and lead vocals (ex-Chants R&B, The Party Machine). In August 1970 Kennedy was replaced by Ray Arnott on drums. These members also performed under the alter ego, Indelible Murtceps, from 1971 to 1973.

The later pressings can be identified by the absence of a laminate strip down the right side of the back of the sleeve. Known reissues in October 1977, October 1978, January 1981 and May 1982.
