The Mamas & the Papas is the self-titled second studio album by the American folk rock vocal group The Mamas & the Papas, released in 1966. The album peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200 album chart and number 24 in the UK. The lead off single, "I Saw Her Again", reached number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 11 in the UK Singles Chart

The band's second album, The Mamas & the Papas, is sometimes referred to as Cass, John, Michelle, Dennie, whose names appear above the band's name on the cover, including the unexplained misspelling of Doherty's first name. Recording was interrupted when Michelle Phillips became indiscreet about her affair with Gene Clark of the Byrds. A liaison the previous year between Michelle Phillips and Denny Doherty had been forgiven by her husband, John Phillips. For the second time, Dunhill Records returned to the band's earlier work for a single, releasing "Do You Wanna Dance" from the debut album in October 1968. The song reached No. 76 in the U. .She appeared frequently on television, including in two specials, The Mama Cass Television Program on ABC in January 1969 and Don't Call Me Mama Anymore on CBS in September 1973.

In reading Spiller’s Mama’s Baby, Papa’s Maybe I was given an alternative way to understand the tragic event in Morrison’s Beloved when Sethe tries to murder her children before they can get recaptured into slavery. Describing what transpired in that shed, Morrison writes Inside, two boys bled in the sawdust and dirt at the feet of a nigger woman holding a blood soaked child to her chest with one hand and an infant by the heels in the other (Morrison 149). Initially, the brutality of the action is overwhelming, and how someone can be led to this quite. Joyce A. Joyce, The Black Canon: Reconstructing Black American Literary Criticism.
