Album · 2011 · 13 Songs. New York City’s Postelles draw loose comparisons to the Strokes due to their similar spirit and kinetic energy and the fact that Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. was an early supporter and produced four tracks on this debut album. The band produced the remaining tracks. However, the Postelles have their own personality. They make the connection between ‘50s rock ‘n’ roll and the stripped-down flow of ‘70s new wave.

October 12, 2010 8:32PM ET. The Postelles. The Postelles get scruffy on Stella, unleashing some neatly arranged garage rock, but their lyrics stay amusingly sweet: Frontman Daniel Balk kindly invites a sleepy female guest to spend the night - on the floor next to his bed. The album also includes eight songs that weren’t produced by Hammond, yet his specter looms large throughout, and the Postelles (who produced the remaining tracks themselves) spend most of their time re-creating Is This It? with scrubbed-up, squeaky-clean results. 1 White Night The Postelles 2:38. 2 Sleep On the Dance Floor The Postelles 2:59. 3 123 Stop The Postelles 2:28. 4 Boy's Best Friend The Postelles 3:12. 5 Can't Stand Still The Postelles 2:33. 6 Hold On The Postelles 2:59. 7 Stella The Postelles 2:53.
Video: The Postelles, "123 Stop". The Postelles - Dargahi, frontman Daniel Balk, bassist John Speyer and drummer Billy Cadden - met while attending New York's Columbia Prep. They played a number of local gigs while still in school, one of which led to a run-in with Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond J. who liked what he heard. A month later, the group released the EP "White Night," which Hammond produced, but the debut album continued to suffer delays. Finally, a week before the act was booked to play a soldout gig at New York's Bowery Ballroom and kick off a tour with Interpol, Kaps received a call from EMI's lawyer, informing him the band had been dropped from the label.
Like the coolest kids at the sock hop, the Postelles play mid-century rock & roll with a hipster twist, modeling their melodies after Buddy Holly one minute and Elvis Costello the next.
