Sidi Bou Said were a London-based alternative rock band, who existed during the 1990s, formed by Claire Lemmon, Gayl Harrison and Melanie Woods. Their music combined an indie rock/folk sound with complex arrangements and literate lyrics. Their name comes from a town in Tunisia.

Named for a religious figure who lived there, Abu Said al-Baji, it was previously called Jabal el-Menar. The town itself is a tourist attraction and is known for its extensive use of blue and white. It can be reached by a TGM train, which runs from Tunis to La Marsa.

Profile: London-based rock band, active from 1993 to 1997. In 2001, they briefly reformed (with an additional guitarist) under the name Tetra. On 15 December 2005, they played a one-off reunion gig under the original name Sidi Bou Said. Members: Claire Lemmon: guitar, vocals Lee Howton: guitar, vocals (left in the summer 1994) Gayl Harrison: bass Melanie Woods: drums. Members: Claire Lemmon, Gayl Harrison, Lee Howton, Melanie Woods.

Sidi Bou Said were a London-based indie band formed in the early 1990s, consisting of Claire Lemmon (guitar & lead vocal), Mel Woods (drums & backing vocal) and Gayl Harrison (bass); and named after a town in Tunisia. Their indie-rock sound was combined with a wide variety of influences from folk to progressive rock and the odd touch of electronica.

Sidi Bou Said is an excellent base of operations for your trip to Tunisia. Since it is located very close to Tunis, there is plenty of things to do in and around the town. The streets of Sidi Bou Said, most of which are quaint cobbled streets, are lined for the most part with souvenir shops, cafe’s, and art shops. The entire town has an intense feel of artistry and craftsmanship, and the locals are very proud of their town, and don’t hesitate to show it off. Much of the town is quiet, and inhabited mostly by locals going about their daily business.
