An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a collection on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78-rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats.

He elevates the recordist to the heights of artist and, in his case, poet. To me this is completely wrong. Recording is simply a technical craft that sometimes forces the practitioner to be creative. issue is when the recordist/producer is placing themselves in the spotlight more than the people creating the music that is being captured. Agree with Plush on this one. It is not about being in the spotlight for me, it's about taking needed responsibility. All analog recording on Scotch tape. Whatever bugged you so much about Mr. Alexander surely can't be found in the booklets of these recordings I have.

Tool employed a similar analog process for their previous albums, tracking their instruments in analog and using Pro Tools for vocals and mixing. You can read a past interview with producer David Bottrill detailing Tool’s recording process for Lateralus here. The as-yet-untitled LP serves as the follow-up to 2006’s 10,000 Days.
So what is summing, and why is analog supposedly better? Great questions. Today I want to briefly explain the issues at hand and help you to realize that you shouldn’t care. As to me being used to analog mixing, I recorded the entire Pharcyde album on a DAW in 1992. I was used to the auditory schmear that happens from mixing on a desk, yet somehow I managed to transition to midfield mixing with no impediments between myself and the monitors. Our job, whether we’re the artist, producer, recordist, or mixer, is to deliver that music in a way that causes an emotional reaction. Whether that’s glee, sadness, love, anger-you name it, this is what music brings to our lives.
