They began as a side-project of Building Better Bombs, which is why all members of BBB are also in Marijuana Deathsquads. Their live shows, as well as studio recordings, feature multiple colaborations with outsourced musicians.

Since 2011, the band has released four studio albums which include Crazy Master (2011), Tamper Disable Destroy (2012), Music Rocks I & II (2013), and Oh My Sexy Lord (2013). With their first LP, Isaac Gale, vocalist, won the City Pages Best Male Vocalist award. Gale’s singing was described as a poltergeist creeping out of a snowy, crackling television screen. It is quite a rush to listen to the Marijuana Deathsquads. The band’s last album, Oh My Sexy Lord, was praised by Spin magazine.
