The Architects of Extermination is ultimately an expression of that conflict, a convincing manifestation of war in stereo. Although Kommandant have applied a martial discipline to the execution of their craft, the music nonetheless relays a sense of chaos in its murk and dissonance. Many of the voiced comparisons across the experimental black and death metal spectrum (Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Mitochondrion, or even Gorguts) only get halfway towards nailing the sound here. It is above and away the strongest album they’ve yet produced. If Kommandant continue down this path towards more harrowing and sophisticated material, I have no doubt that their existing repute as extreme metal provocateurs will be fortified with even greater status as the years plod on.
