Overview (current section). Ilmiliekki's debut album "March of the Alpha Males" (TUM Records) was a nominee for a Jazz Emma (the Finnish Grammy) for the best jazz album of the year 2003.
They may have been the recipients of precious little hype but when you see the Ilmiliekki Quartet live, you just know they're an important band. Their trumpet, piano, bass and drums line-up is standard, but listen to 'Karhu', on which pianist Tuomo Prattala takes you into another sphere, or trumpeter Verneri Pohjola's interpretation of Tom Waits's 'Take it With Me', and you realise that they're anything but conventional. Suzanne Vega and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are afforded the same treatment, proving that there's no one else quite like Ilmiliekki.
