Older is the third solo studio album by George Michael, released in Europe on 13 May 1996 through Virgin Records and Aegean and one day later in the United States. The American release was the first ever album released by DreamWorks Records. It was Michael's first album since 1990's Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 – the gap was due to the legal battle that Michael experienced with his former record company Sony Music

English singer George Michael released five studio albums, two compilation albums, one extended play, 47 singles, three promotional singles, 31 music videos and five video albums. In his career, Michael sold over 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. Michael's debut solo album, Faith, was released by Epic Records in the United Kingdom in October 1987.

So it goes without saying that the 1990s were a bad time for George Michael- and the biggest reason why can be chalked up to the death of his boyfriend, Anselmo Feleppa, in 1993 from AIDS. Another reason was pure fuckery from his record label, Sony Records, for piss poor promotion for Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1. This led to Michael engaging in a bitter legal battle with the label- but as an even bigger blow, he somehow lost the battle. So this mixture of grievance and anger led him to devote 3 years to crafting what would be his third solo effort, Older.
