Alongside Chicago house music pioneer Frankie Knuckles and For The Record DJ Pool founder Judy Weinstein, Morales founded Def Mix Productions to manage their work. Today, Def Mix continues to represent the estate of Frankie Knuckles, in addition to Quentin Harris and Hector Romero. David Morales' solo production debut came in 1993 with the Mercury Records album David Morales & The Bad Yard Club, The Program. In 1998, he released Needin’ U on the Def Mix label, DMI Records, under the alias The Face. Morales is considered to be one of the first so-called superstar DJs. He has performed at many clubs around the globe, including numerous dates at Ibiza venues such as Pacha and Space
Morales' work as a house music producer began in 1993, with a full 11-track album titled The Program, which was released by Phonogram Records. Gimme Luv (Eenie Meenie Miny Mo)" was the most successful single to be lifted from the album and was a major dance hit that spent two weeks on top of the Billboard dance chart in August 1993. After his debut release, Morales produced few original records, focusing instead on carving out his career as one of the first true "superstar" DJs and as a prolific remixer, working with some of the biggest names in music.
