The Modernaires may have come to prominence during their tenure with Glenn Miller in the early 1940's, but they continued to grow and expand, becoming pioneers in the jazz vocal group world. Groups like the Manhattan Transfer came out of the Mods' influence. These renditions of Miller's instrumental hits are not mere parrotings of the originals, but FRESH new arrangements with a top-notch studio band behind them. There are even some special lyrics written by group founder Hal Dickinson and member Alan Copeland (who also contributed several of the band charts). This album is quite a surprise. The stereo quality is quite good, plus the blend of the Modernaires' voices is about the best they ever did. The numbers range from slow and nostalgic-note Sunrise Serenade, Getting Sentimental, Stardust, and Moonlight Serenade-to very upbeat-note In The Mood and Boogie Woogie.
