Christian Death is an American gothic rock band formed in Orange County, California, in 1979 by Rozz Williams. With major line-up changes over the years, Christian Death has retained "a relentlessly confrontational stand against organized religion and conventional morality". Williams was eventually joined by guitarist Rikk Agnew of the band Adolescents, James McGearty on bass guitar and George Belanger on drums.
Guitarist Valor Kand gets even more ambitious on his second album as the lead vocalist of Christian Death; The Scriptures is as much his take on comparative world religions as it is a goth rock album - in the words of the liner notes, it's "a translation of world beliefs by Valor. It's rather grandiose and pretentious, of course, but that's often what Christian Death do best and those qualities give their music its impact. The balance provided by Rozz Williams is missed, but The Scriptures is still one of the band's strongest albums without him. Track Listing
