Adventures in Modern Recording is the second and final studio album by British synthpop duo The Buggles, released in 1981 on Carrere Records. Made one year after their stint as members of Yes, the album contains nine tracks, including a stripped-down version of Yes's "Into the Lens", here entitled, "I Am a Camera". The album as released was mostly a Trevor Horn solo effort, Geoffrey Downes having joined Asia before recording began. Bruce Woolley assisted in completing the tracks.

Both "Adventures in Modern Recording" and "Inner City," with its lush arrangement and engrossing melody, show off Horn's remarkable production savvy. Yet listening to Plastic today, the album sounds like unfinished business, a series of good ideas in need of elaboration, and this is precisely what Adventures In Modern Recording delivers. In terms of both sound and songwriting, it's vastly more sophisticated and satisfying than its predecessor. The s chatter of 'Video Killed The Radio Star' has been toned down in favour of the wistful melancholy hinted at in the masterful dreamscape of 'Elstree' and Horn's abilities as a producer had taken a bold leap into the future. Adventures In Modern Recording is something of a lost classic, with great vocals by Trevor Horn and a sparkling electronic sound that is completely in-step with the prevailing electro mood of the pop charts in 2010. Alongside all the b-sides and remixes of the era, Horn has personally selected several previously-unheard demo recordings including 'Videotheque' (a Top 20 hit produced by Trevor - the following year for Dollar) and 'We Can Fly From Here' (Parts 1and 2), originally written for and performed by Yes, as bonus tracks. It's a very different beast from the first Buggles album, partly as it was basically a Trevor Horn solo album, Geoff Downes left partway through to form Asia.
