A John Waters Christmas is the type of kitschy Christmas compilation one would expect from the cult director, featuring such gems as Roger Christian's reading of "Little Mary Christmas," the ballad of an orphaned girl who is passed up for adoption year after year until Santa Claus finally brings her a new set of parents, and Tiny Tim's rendition of "Rudolph. the Red-Nosed Reindeer," which is, in all earnestness, one of the most uplifting and beautifully sincere versions of the song ever recorded.
John Samuel Waters Jr. (born April 22, 1946) is an American film director, screenwriter, author, actor, stand-up comedian, journalist, visual artist, and art collector, who rose to fame in the early 1970s for his transgressive cult films. (born April 22, 1946) is an American film director, screenwriter, author, actor, stand-up comedian, journalist, visual artist, and art collector, who rose to fame in the early 1970s for his transgressive cult films, especially Pink Flamingos. His family were upper-middle class Roman Catholics
A John Waters Christmas is a compilation album of Christmas music selected by cult film director John Waters. Fat Daddy" – Fat Daddy. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" – Tiny Tim. "Christmas Time Is Coming" (A Street Carol) – Stormy Weather, originally released in 1975. Happy Birthday Jesus" – Little Cindy, originally released in 1959. Here Comes Fatty Claus" – Rudolph & Gang.
Like his movies, John Waters' Christmas album is a good-natured distillation of perverted novelty and heretical irreverence. Little Cindy's "Happy Birthday Jesus (A Child's Prayer)" is a child-exploiting, n tome recast as side-splitting oddity. An afternoon at Wal-Mart will put you in the mood for Rudolph & Gang's acerbic "Here Comes Fatty Claus," while Akim & the Teddy Vann Production Company's "Santa Claus Is a Black Man" warms the cockles with its middling yet earnest execution.
john waters christmas. Baltimore’s greatest filmmaker has demonstrated a deep appreciation for that very American crossroads of kitsch and sensationalism since the late ‘60s, at least.

When people think of John Waters, Christmas might not be the first thing they think of. I only make fun of things I love! And Christmas is something that I do love. Why do you love Christmas? I love Christmas because it’s a time that’s extreme for everybody. No matter what, something is going to happen, you can’t avoid it. You have to have clothes for it, too, which I love-in December, I’m like a drag queen on Halloween: I work. So I have to look all year for clothes that I can wear in my Christmas show. I love the Chipmunks, because I cannot get enough of their voices. But every Christmas album puts me in a good mood.
