Duncan Sheik (born November 18, 1969) is an American singer-songwriter and composer. Sheik is known for his 1996 debut single "Barely Breathing", which earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. He has composed music for motion pictures and the Broadway stage, winning a Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for his work on the 2006 musical Spring Awakening.
Duncan Sheik is the self-titled debut by American singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik. It was released on Atlantic Records in 1996. Sheik recorded around thirty songs with producer Rupert Hine for this album while working out a deal with Atlantic (who took over his previous contract from Immortal Records), which left around 18 tracks unheard from these sessions. The only outtake from the album which saw light, "View From The Other Side", was released as a b-side in 1997.
Duncan Sheik's debut album will undoubtedly go down in history as the vehicle that transported the pop/rock hit "Barely Breathing. That's fine, but this record has so much more to offer. As a songwriter, Sheik crafts richly melodic and thoughtful songs that seep into your consciousness with the greatest of ease.
