Raven are an English heavy metal band associated with the new wave of British heavy metal movement. They have released thirteen studio albums to date, and had a hit with the single "On and On". Their music is often referred to as "athletic rock", and the band are considered one of the key influences on the thrash metal genre, including bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus, Kreator and Sodom.

2014 found the band opening for Metallica (the band Raven took on their first tour back in 1983) in Sao Paulo in front of 70,000 fans, and completeing a 43 date headlining USA tour – not to mention completing their finest album to date – ExtermiNation which was released to universal acclaim from fans & critics alike in 2015! 2015 & 2016 had the band on tour. playing the USA, a 43 date Euro tour, festivals and territories such as South Korea & eastern Europe for the first time as well as a triumphant return to Japan  .

British Raven should not be confused with Raven (American band) who toured England in 1969, bringing with them 75 copies of their Live at the Inferno album. Raven gave away these albums to various fans and club djs. Raven was formed in 1974 in Newcastle, England, by brothers John and Mark Gallagher, and Paul Bowden. Raven began creating a sound which was rooted in British hard rock, with progressive rock tendencies, and a willingness to take musical chances
