Ravel wrote it for Paul Sordes. Miroirs (French for "Mirrors") is a five-movement suite for solo piano written by French composer Maurice Ravel between 1904 and 1905. Miroirs contains five movements, each dedicated to a fellow member of the French avant-garde artist group Les Apaches ("The Hooligans"). This is the third of the five pieces. Ravel wrote it for Paul Sordes. Arpeggiated sections and sweeping melodies imitate the flow of ocean currents. The default audio uses the Salamander soundfont. I have based the tempo and dynamics loosely on a performance by Pascal Rogé.

Only 7 left in stock (more on the way). This is the perfect album for anyone wanting a compilation of his parlor piano music. Unlike the concerto in G, this music is intimate and especially satisfying. Nuances of jazz (Gershwin studied with Ravel briefly) and a more modern tonality emerge as the compilation of pieces reflects Ravel's earliest tradition to the more modern. Maurice Ravel has had an astonishing elite of supreme personalities who have represented him such as Alfred Cortot, Walter Gieseking, Robert Casadesus and Samson Francois. Since Samson Francois, no other pianist had emerged with such memorable capacity to convey the listener the facets of this author and depict with suuch accuracy the Impresionistic universe of Ravel.
For listeners who prefer their Ravel lushly textured, luminously colored, and luxuriantly impressionistic, this four-disc set of his orchestral music performed by Charles Dutoit and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal will be just the thing. With the very virtuosic and very French playing of Pascal Rogé in the two piano concertos plus very characterful singing in L'Enfant, this set will be mandatory listening for all those who love Ravel. Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major was composed between 1929 and 1931. The concerto is in three movements and is heavily influenced by jazz, which Ravel had encountered on a concert tour of the United States in 1928. The concerto was deeply infused with jazz idioms and harmonies, which, at the time, were highly popular in Paris as well as the United States, where Ravel was traveling on a piano tour.
